  • The table that follows shows surveyed shelf-life for Shelf Stable products under a range of temperature conditions. Due to temperature variations that occur in the facilities where Shelf Stable products are stored, however, it is often impossible to determine actual shelf-life. Shelf life is more predictable where a climate controlled environment is maintained throughout the entire life of the product.

Sustained Storage Temperatures °F Estimated Shelf-life (in months):
    120° ............ 1 month
    100° ............ 5 month
    100° ............ 18 month
    90° ............ 30 month
    80° ............ 48 month
    70° ............ 66 month
    60° ............ 84 month
    50° to 33 ° ............ 96 month

NOTES: No product guarantee or warranty is implied by the table above, nor should it be interpreted as such. It is intended for educational use only.

The table above references sustained temperatures. Shelf Stable products are not usually stored in climate controlled or air-conditioned facilities for long periods of time and product nutritional value and shelf-life may be compromised if an average temperature is not maintained. Shelf Stable products should not be stored at temperatures of 25° - 30° F due to possible reduction in quality. Frozen storage is not recommended. Rough handling of a frozen package can result in broken seals and food spoilage.

  • Food is prepared by various retort methods to maximize the flavor, safety and longevity of the food. Different foods require different methods of preparation. Please contact us for further information.

  • The product is packaged in special layered material to maintain freshness for a long period of time. No company can guarantee an absolute shelf-life for its product because shelf-life depends on food components and temperature conditions. The average shelf-life is about 3-years. Please refer to the shelf-life table for more details.

  • No. Dehydrated or freeze dried foods typically require that water be added in order to be prepared and eaten. Your Sure-Pak12 MRE main courses and side dishes are 'ready to eat', and do not require you to add water to the contents.

The food is placed in flexible bags, vacuum-sealed, and cooked in large pressure-cookers called retorts. Meals are fully cooked and can be eaten straight out of the bag - heated or unheated. Some M.R.E.’s include a Flameless Ration Heater (FRH) for heating the main entrée.

  • Yes. The main entrees (such as Beef Stew, Chili with Macaroni or similar items) do not require additional cooking prior to being eaten. All products may be eaten cold, directly from the pouch. Heating of the products is considered optional, although most people do prefer to warm their food when possible.

The meals are designed to be of acceptable taste quality at room temperature and heating is not necessary as the food is fully cooked.

We do carry the Sure-Pak 12 with and without a heating element or flameless ration heater. The meals can also be heated by laying on any heated surface, place on a surface in direct sunlight or by submerging the unopened pouch in boiling water.

  • Each Sure-Pak 12 case contains two (2) each of six (6) different menus. Menus are chosen by our facility based on production and what is available when we pack the cases.

A full case weighs about 22 pounds.
